Team Cattle Penning is a family orientated sport.
The object of the sport is for three team members on horses to collect three head of cattle with the same numbers on them from a herd of thirty cattle which are at one end of the arena. The team then attempts to put these three head of cattle into a small pen at the other end of the arena. All this is to be done in 90 seconds or less. Preferably less.
New members are always welcome to join our club with or without any previous experience. We have many seasoned team penners that can help you learn the sport.
Our season starts in March with the Regional finals in September.

At the end of 2019; our membership voted on several changes to our policies and procedures. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we did not get to implement these changes in 2020. These changes will be carried through to the 2021 season. In addition, the CTPA board has made additional changes to our policies and procedures. There is an overview of all changes highlighted in this communication. Please read the updated policies and procedures for more detailed information. These changes will most likely impact how you make teams so please make sure you read them!
2021 Overview of changes to Policies and Procedures
1) Cross-Entering Allowed in all Classes
2) Class placing will be paid out to a maximum of 5 places; with a minimum of 3 places
3) Mandatory Draw Implemented in all Classes
4) Additional Entries added to all classes
5) The Limited Open 12 Class has been changed to Limited Open 11 Class
Our goal with these changes is to keep CTPA and the sport of team penning in Southern Alberta vibrant and strong! The CTPA board has listened to our members and assessed how other regional and national associations structure their shows. We believe we have created an updated structure that balances supporting new and existing members, novice riders, amateur riders and pros alike. CTPA has historically been one of the strongest regional associations in North America; however, it’s time for some change to keep us fresh, competitive and having fun!!
